Safety issues of flame retardants

Jan 09, 2020

Flame retardants are chemical products, so they must pay attention to its safety issues in production, storage, use, etc., otherwise it may cause some major accidents. This aspect is also valued by the government, enterprises and consumers. In view of this situation, we must have a comprehensive understanding of the flame retardants used, and do the safety work in each link in the correct way to prevent problems.

①To conduct a comprehensive toxicity assessment of flame retardants that are suspected to be harmful to human health and the environment, and to strictly control their production, use and mock collection. Once it is confirmed that it is unsuitable for use, production and sales are stopped. For example, tris (dibromopropyl) phosphate was once a widely used and very effective flame retardant, but it was later found to be carcinogenic and has been banned in many countries. The flame retardants pentabromodiphenyl ether and octabromodiphenyl ether, which have been confirmed to be toxic by evaluation, have also been banned in the near future.

②For newly developed flame retardant products, more comprehensive research and evaluation have been conducted on their impact on human health, safety and environment. Can provide more detailed information on the above aspects to ensure the safety of production and use.

③ What needs to be done now is to develop new flame retardants with high safety and high practicability while improving the quality of the flame retardants and ensuring safe work. Gradually promote the application on a large scale. And there is reason to believe that the development of new flame retardants will ensure the use of flame retardant materials, which can reduce the fire hazard and minimize their impact on the environment.
